Reader, what would you do to win a 2012 Kia Soul? Would you take 3 weeks out of your life to sit in a car listening to other people's snoring, smelling funky odors, and receiving only short breaks? Three brave women in Ohio would, and did. Vanessa Branch, Deanna Sutorius, and Rachel Cothey lived, slept, and ate in a Kia Soul for 21 days at the Halleen Kia dealership in North Olmsted, Ohio. Each of the women was allowed one 5-minute bathroom break per hour and a 15-minute break every six hours. At the end of the three weeks, each woman was asked to choose a briefcase with a number inside; that number corresponded to the prize she would win. Rachel Cothey strolled away with the Kia vehicle, while Sutorius and Branch both accepted a consolatory prize of $2,500 each.
The Kia Soul competition lasted through the first three weeks of November 2011, and, despite the many issues the ladies encountered, they also had some enjoyable times, including pulling numerous pranks on the Halleen dealership employees. One of these jests was Rachel Cothey's favorite part of the contest. She states, "We told them they had a rodent problem and then we took all the [computer] mouses off their desks and put them up on the desk and said we rounded them up."1 The ladies all felt that the competition was worth their participation, but they couldn't wait to get home and take showers.
The 2012 Kia Soul impresses people of all sorts with its quirky, boxy style, low pricing, and standard features, including: Bluetooth and iPod integration capability, Satellite radio, and fuel economy of up to 26 city mpg and 34 mpg on the highway. The Soul starts around $14,000, and it's loved by fledgling families and thrifty singletons alike. Interested in test driving the Soul or another new Kia vehicle?
