Kia has always been known for its small, affordable, fuel-efficient cars and SUVs and its dedication to the environment, but now the auto brand has taken this commitment a step further by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Environment Programme in support of the group's important World Environment Day, which has been celebrated every year on June 5th since 1972. This year's WED theme is "Green Economy: Does it include you?"
Director of Overseas Marketing for Kia, Soon-Nam Lee, explains the impact of this new partnership, stating, "Through participation in environmental partnerships such as with UNEP we aim to support steadfast efforts to solve global environmental challenges. This year's 'Green Economy' theme strongly resonates with our core environmental management objectives of achieving low carbon emissions, resource efficiency and placing the environment at the forefront of all our business activities." 1
Kia has marketed the partnership and its support through the "Kia Likes Caring" campaign- showcased on the company's Facebook page. Fans can place "Kia Likes Caring" badges on their Facebook profiles, and 100 participants were selected randomly to receive official WED t-shirts for pledging their support. Kia also plans to award five new Kia vehicles to grassroots organizations that work towards a more sustainable, green economy.
Kia certainly is showing its support for the environment in amazing ways. To learn more about the automaker's dedication to "being green," as well as other Kia news updates, check back often here with Kia of Chattanooga, conveniently located at 2136 Chapman Rd Chattanooga, TN 37421.
