What Country is Kia From?

The company, now known as Kia, originated in South Korea, with its headquarters located in Seoul. More specifically, the company started creating cars for the Korean market in 1973 from their location centered in the Yeongdeungpo-gu district in southwest Seoul. If you’re interested in where Kia is from, it’s here that they opened their first integrated automotive assembly plant and developed into the now-global car manufacturer.

Where it Began: The Kia History

While the Kia history begins with ideas on mobility, their start wasn’t in the automotive industry. The brand first began by manufacturing steel pipes and bicycle parts by hand until they decided to begin manufacturing complete bikes in 1951. Shortly after, in 1952, the company was officially named “Kia”. The brand later went on to produce motorcycles and upgraded its lineup to produce commercial vehicles in 1962. From there, the company grew into the Kia Motors we know today!

In 1992, the first Kia dealerships began to open in the United States, with the total number growing to 30 Kia dealerships by 1995. The company continues to produce reliable and stylish models for your commutes around Dayton, even going on to include hybrid and EV models like the Niro and EV6.

Where Kia is Made Now

With its introduction into North America, it’s no surprise that Kia has continued to spread throughout North American and European markets over time. Kia continues to hold its headquarters in Seoul, with additional assembly plants in West Point, Georgia and Zilina, Slovakia, to meet the growing demands worldwide.
